Editorial Policy

GenesWellness explains genetics in plain language for parents, students and anyone trying to understand how genes shape their health. Because some of our readers use this information when thinking about their own or their family’s health, we hold ourselves to clear standards. This page explains who creates our content, how we research and check it, how we keep it up to date, and how we are funded.

Who creates our content

Our articles are written and reviewed by researchers with doctoral training in genetics:

  • Dr. Sumeet Kumar, founder and editor. Human geneticist with a PhD in human genetics from the University of Delhi (2021); his research on the genetics of Parkinson’s disease is published in peer-reviewed journals. He also builds our genetic calculators.
  • Dr. Heena Arora, fact-checker. Geneticist and microbiologist whose research includes identifying a key gene for white rust resistance in mustard.
  • Dr. Renu Bala, fact-checker. Genetic researcher focused on maternal and newborn health, and a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Exeter, UK.

Every article shows its author, and health articles also show the expert who fact-checked it. You can read more about the team on our About page.

How we research and source our articles

  • We start from the evidence. We rely on peer-reviewed research, giving the most weight to systematic reviews, large studies and randomized trials, together with clinical guidelines and expert resources such as the World Health Organization, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, professional medical societies and GeneReviews.
  • We link to our sources. Health articles end with a reference list, and we link each claim to the original study or guideline (usually on PubMed) so you can check it yourself.
  • We say how strong the evidence is. When a finding comes from animal studies, small trials or a single study that has not been repeated, we say so.
  • We avoid hype. We do not promise cures, and we point out when popular products or tests are not supported by good evidence.

How we fact-check

Before or shortly after publication, every health article is reviewed by a second member of our team with a PhD in genetics, who is named on the article as the fact-checker. The reviewer checks that the statements are accurate, that numbers match the original sources, that the evidence is described fairly, and that the article is clear for non-specialists. Articles are revised until both the author and the reviewer are satisfied.

How we use AI tools

Some of our articles are drafted with the help of AI writing tools. AI is never the final word: every article is checked, edited and approved by our PhD geneticists, and every source is verified against the original study or guideline before publication. The named author and fact-checker take responsibility for what we publish.

Our calculators

Our genetic calculators are built on published inheritance patterns and on reference data such as the CDC growth charts and the WHO Child Growth Standards. Trait calculators give probabilities, not certainties, and each calculator page explains how it works and its limits.

Keeping content up to date

Genetics moves quickly, so we review our articles and update them when new evidence or guidance appears. Each article keeps its original publication date and shows when it was last updated. We only change the update date when we have made a meaningful change to the content, not for minor edits.
